hi ,i checked my oil the other day and it was dry as a bone ,i put in a bottle of oil which took it just below the min level ,over the past few weeks i have smelt a burning smell when i get out of the car ,could this be part of the problem?I know i should have done something earlier but as i know absolutely nothing about cars i thought i would ignore like some people do with red letters.Shall i top the oil up with another bottle or should i get an oil change done or should i pop into a garage for advice, may i also add that there isn't any oil on my drive so it can't be leaking i have a 98 ford galaxy 2litre.

Thanks for any advice

I would fill it to just below the max and then check on a daily basis to see what is happening. Has it bn servived - if so when ??

When you say you can smell burning, is it a hot oil smell? Normally when you can smell hot or burning oil whuren you exit the car it is an oil leak onto a manifold or other hot area. Is your car dropping any oil onto the ground?
